Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research organization to engage Civil and Environmental Engineering professionals in a full-time , high-impact project focused on training and advancing frontier AI systems. As a full-time AI Tutor – Civil and Environmental Engineering Specialist , you will collaborate with technical and research teams to provide expert annotations, feedback, and high-quality input that shape the next generation of intelligent technologies. You’ll refine data workflows, guide AI task development, and ensure engineering knowledge is represented with precision and integrity. This position is ideal for professionals eager to merge their engineering background with cutting-edge AI innovation in a collaborative, research-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Use proprietary software to provide precise annotations and evaluations on civil and environmental engineering content.
• Collaborate with AI researchers and technical staff to design and enhance annotation tools and workflows.
• Apply subject-matter expertise to assess and improve AI model reasoning and accuracy.
• Interpret evolving task instructions and execute complex assignments with consistency and attention to detail.
• Contribute to the creation of high-quality datasets that improve AI understanding of engineering systems and practices.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and research abilities.
• Ability to work independently and make informed decisions with minimal oversight.
• Proficiency in interpreting engineering data, research papers, and technical documentation.
• Passion for advancing technology and AI innovation.

Preferred Backgrounds

• PhD in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• Professional or academic experience addressing real-world civil or environmental engineering problems.
• Publications in reputable journals or technical outlets.
• Experience in AI tutoring, technical writing, or educational content development.
• Teaching or tutoring experience at the university or professional level.
• Previous work as a practicing civil or environmental engineer.

Work Environment

• Full-time position available in-person in Palo Alto, CA, or fully remote.
• In-office positions require presence 5 days per week; remote professionals must demonstrate strong independence and focus.
• Standard schedule: 9:00 AM–5:30 PM PST during onboarding, then aligned with your local timezone.
• U.S.-based applicants must reside outside Wyoming and Illinois.
• Requires a Chromebook, Mac (macOS 11+), or Windows 10+ computer and a reliable smartphone.
• Visa sponsorship is not available.

Compensation

• $45–$100 per hour , depending on experience, education, and location.
• International pay ranges available upon request.
