Job Overview

The Environmental Wastewater Specialist position is a unique opportunity to work with the Wastewater and Stormwater Manager to develop and implement effective strategies for managing wastewater and stormwater systems. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of wastewater and stormwater management are in compliance with regulatory requirements. This is a remote position, offering you the flexibility to work from the comfort of your own home while making a significant contribution to our organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a master inventory of wastewater treatment plants, noting which locations have an on-site wastewater technician to ensure effective management and maintenance of these systems.
  • Collaborate with operations and EHS teams to develop Operations and Maintenance Plans for different types of wastewater pretreatment systems, ensuring that these plans are comprehensive and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the Training Director/Manager and EHS team to develop, deploy, and follow-up on training programs for wastewater and stormwater sampling, pH meter calibration and troubleshooting, and permit reviews and compliance, ensuring that all employees are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Develop and maintain discharge tracking logs, conducting periodic reviews to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Responsible for trending data and performing on-site inspections to assure compliance with regulatory requirements, identifying potential issues before they become major problems.
  • Prepare Wastewater pretreatment applications, ensuring that these applications are complete and accurate, and that all necessary documentation is included.
  • Develop and write SWPPP plans for different types of operations, ensuring that these plans are comprehensive and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and write SPCC plans for different types of operations, ensuring that these plans are comprehensive and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct scheduled reviews of all plans, including Wastewater O&M Manuals, SWPPP, BMPs, and SPCC, to ensure that these plans are up-to-date and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the EHS training team to develop and deploy training programs on wastewater pretreatment operations, stormwater sampling, and recordkeeping, ensuring that all employees are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their jobs effectively.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field, with a strong foundation in environmental science and wastewater management.
  • 3-5 years of experience in wastewater management, with a proven track record of developing and implementing effective strategies for managing wastewater and stormwater systems.
  • Experience with plan and permit writing, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance issues.
  • Proficient in technical writing, with the ability to assist with wastewater permit applications and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan preparation and development.
  • General understanding of wastewater processes and mechanical knowledge of different wastewater systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field, with a strong foundation in wastewater management and environmental sustainability.
  • 5+ years of experience in wastewater management, with a proven track record of developing and implementing effective strategies for managing wastewater and stormwater systems.
  • Certification in wastewater management, such as a Certified Wastewater Treatment Operator (CWTO) or a Certified Environmental Professional (CEP).
  • Experience with environmental management systems, such as ISO 14001, and a strong understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance issues.
