Remote Medical Coder – SUNY Upstate Medical University Project
Position Overview
ND Global Consulting Services, Inc., a New York State Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Joint Commission–Accredited healthcare staffing firm, is seeking experienced Remote Medical Coders to support SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. Successful candidates will perform high-quality inpatient and outpatient coding for a Level 1 Trauma Center, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely chart turnaround.
This is a long-term, remote position under a five-year statewide contract managed by NDGCS.
Key Responsibilities
● Accurately code inpatient, outpatient, observation, emergency, surgical, labor & delivery, and newborn encounters.
● Apply appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding standards following official guidelines.
● Review and interpret clinical documentation, ensuring correct principal and secondary diagnosis assignment.
● Ensure coding accuracy, data integrity, and regulatory compliance with AHIMA, CMS, NYS DOH, and facility standards.
● Maintain productivity standards established by SUNY Upstate:
○ Inpatient: 1.5 charts/hour
○ Outpatient Surgery: 3 charts/hour
○ Observation: 2 charts/hour
○ Emergency Department: 7 charts/hour
● Work in collaboration with the hospital’s Coding Manager and CDI Team to resolve queries and maintain consistent documentation improvement.
● Utilize the Epic and 3M systems to code and abstract patient information.
● Participate in quality assurance audits, accuracy reviews, and ongoing coding updates.
● Adhere to HIPAA confidentiality requirements and data security policies at all times.
● Submit weekly productivity reports to NDGCS management.
Qualifications Required:
● Minimum 3 years of recent medical coding experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center or similar acute care setting.
● Proficiency in Inpatient, Outpatient, ER, and Observation coding.
● Strong working knowledge of Epic and 3M encoder systems.
● Excellent understanding of CDI processes and documentation reconciliation.
● U.S.-based candidate with secure work setup for remote access.
● Proven ability to meet high productivity and accuracy targets (95%+ accuracy).
Preferred (but not mandatory):
● RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or equivalent certification
● Prior experience supporting large academic medical centers
● Familiarity with SUNY system workflows
Compensation $25.00 - 27.00
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $26.00 - $27.00 per hour

Experience:
