About the position The Principal Information Technical Architect reporting to the Director of Architecture works within the Corporate Information Systems team as the authority for Salesforce (SFDC) development best practices, SFDC platform health, and adoption of advanced system capabilities supporting development activities within Medidata. The Principal Information Technical Architect is responsible for ensuring technical solutions are well architected following Salesforce best practices, ensuring solutions are designed with performance and scale in mind. Responsibilities • Maintain intimate knowledge of the packages, customizations and automations supporting important business processes encompassing lead to cash including CPQ, CLM, PSA, SFA and other departments. • Require and review technical specifications for complex requirements to assure SFDC best practices are followed, preventing performance issues, and assuring solutions are built to scale. • Maintain a technical roadmap to include release updates, health check, optimizer results, deprecation, and refactor opportunities. • Collaborate with Solution Architects to understand requirements and deliverables to provide optimal technical delivery. • Mentor team members in Salesforce best practices and advanced technical concepts. • Work closely with development management supporting the technical delivery of Salesforce implementations, including custom development. • Identify and reduce technical debt. • Monitor system performance to ensure governor limit thresholds are not crossed and plan corrective action. • Review and/or provide technical specifications for initiatives under development by 3rd parties. • Participate in design and code review for complex changes related to transformational projects. • Own change management approvals and impact analysis for IS. • Seek out and drive the adoption of new development techniques. • Serve as escalation point for critical issues unresolvable by developers with less experience. • Perform solution architecture for select projects. Requirements • 8+ years of hands-on experience working with the Salesforce platform across Sales, Service, Marketing, and Community Clouds. • A deep understanding of the Salesforce platform, including its capabilities and limitations, along with expertise in Apex programming, Visualforce, Lightning components, integration patterns, and strong analytical skills to design scalable, high-performing solutions. • Expert level understanding of Apex coding, Visualforce, Lightning components, data management, and system architecture design principles. • History of designing complex Salesforce solutions, including data models, workflows, custom objects, and security considerations, while considering scalability and performance. • Experience with business processes and the ability to translate requirements into effective Salesforce solutions. • Experience with effectively collaborating with team members, including business users, developers, and project managers, explaining technical concepts in clear terms. • History of providing technical leadership on projects, guide development teams, and make informed decisions regarding architecture design. • Holding the SFDC Certified Technical Architect (CTA) certification and/or other SFDC certifications is desirable. • Completed at least 5-10 full-lifecycle, enterprise Salesforce implementations with focus on solution architecture and technical design. Nice-to-haves • Solution architect consultant for a consultancy or working within mid to large sized organizations. • Management skills with understanding of how to interpret customer needs and translating those into technology and operational requirements. • Expertise in Salesforce CPQ & Sales Cloud. • Salesforce Lightning Platform development.
