Digital Journalist, Sports – Temporary
Job Description:
• This versatile, creative and innovative Digital Journalist will possess true 21st Century digital content skills and experience and drive the success of our digital properties covering college sports.
• Write, edit, produce and deliver a wide variety of sports content.
• Responsible for reading, editing and posting contributed content from press releases, staff writers and freelancers.
• Ensure accurate content, such as updating NCAA Championship brackets or polls. Attention to detail and accuracy are crucial.
• Know how to best lure readers with effective headlines and teases for all delivery — whether desktop, mobile, newsletters or partners.
• Strong producing and programming, but also understanding what content works best and why.
• Use audience analytics tools to track performance.
• Strong understanding of social networking sites and how they can help us reach more readers as well as help develop content.
• Write clean, reader-friendly content for a variety of subjects across owned/operated as well as external platforms.
• Edit content for creators like Andy Katz who provide video content for audiences on NCAA.com and our YouTube channels.
• May require on-site reporting and producing at a wide variety of sporting events.
Requirements:
• Minimum of 2 years editorial experience, preferably in the online medium and in the sports industry
• Working knowledge of web publishing technologies, including HTML and Photoshop
• Strong basic editorial skills (must be able to demonstrate an ability to write, copy edit and show news judgment)
• Experience working with proprietary or off-the-shelf content management systems
• Proficient in basic computer skills such as MS Word and Excel
• Ability to work in a team environment with flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends
• Able to handle last-minute or quick-turnaround deadlines for development or in a live publishing environment
• Superior written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills
• Must be a Dec. 2025, Spring 2026 or Summer 2026 graduate from an NCAA member institution.
• Degree in communication, journalism or related field preferred
