Job Brief

We are looking for a talented Data Entry Clerk to play a vital role in transferring data from paper formats into computer files or database systems. As a key member of our data team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility of our data. The ideal candidate will be computer savvy, possess excellent typing skills, and have a strong understanding of data confidentiality principles. You will report to a senior data team member and work collaboratively to achieve our data management goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transfer data from paper formats into computer files or database systems using keyboards, data recorders, or optical scanners
  • Type in data provided directly from customers with high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Verify data by comparing it to source documents to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Update existing data to maintain the integrity and relevance of our database
  • Retrieve data from the database or electronic files as requested by authorized personnel
  • Perform regular backups to ensure data preservation and prevent loss
  • Sort and organize paperwork after entering data to maintain a tidy and organized workspace

Requirements and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications and skills:

  • Proven experience as a data entry clerk with a strong track record of accuracy and efficiency
  • Fast typing skills with a minimum of 40 words per minute; knowledge of touch typing system is strongly preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of word processing tools and spreadsheets, including MS Office Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, computer hardware, and peripheral devices
  • Basic understanding of databases and data management principles
  • Good command of English, both oral and written, with excellent customer service skills
  • Great attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and quality
  • High school degree or equivalent required; post-secondary education in a related field is an asset

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications and skills are highly desirable:

  • Experience working in a remote or virtual team environment
  • Knowledge of data confidentiality principles and regulations, such as GDPR or HIPAA
