Associate Attorney (Southern California)
ICW Group is a well-established insurance carrier with over 50 years of experience, seeking an Associate Litigation Attorney to manage workers’ compensation cases. This role involves providing litigation and claims legal advice, developing legal strategies, and collaborating with experienced attorneys to deliver optimal results.
Responsibilities
- Provides litigation services and is responsible for all aspects of assigned Workers’ Compensation matters
- Collaborates closely with experienced attorneys on a variety of legal matters, including research, drafting, litigation support, and client counseling
- Develops legal strategies for the litigation of claims cases
- Conducts legal research and analysis on complex issues
- Drafts legal documents including pleadings, motions, contracts, and memoranda
- Assists with case preparation for hearings, trials, and depositions
- Collaborates with internal business partners/senior attorneys on strategy and case management
- Manages an assigned caseload to effectively meet deadlines
- Ensures timely filing of all pleadings and motions or other documents with the court or administrative boards
- Provides effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services to clients and claims professionals on legal and factual issues
- Participates in court sessions/proceedings and meets with clients as needed
- Keeps current with applicable laws and regulations
- Adheres to all ICW Group’s policies and procedures and the California Rules of Professional Conduct
- Builds and fosters internal and external client relationships with a customer-centric focus
Skills
- A bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and a Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited institution is required
- Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of California required, with no history of public or private reprisals
- Proficient in the use of a personal computer and skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, and PowerPoint
- Effective communication skills to convey information to internal/external clients both verbally and in writing
- Ability to define legal issues, collect necessary data, establish facts, draw legal conclusions, and implement strategic legal resolutions
- Must have good time management skills, the ability to appropriately delegate activities, as well as manage multiple priorities
- Prior experience as a Law Clerk working within workers' compensation, underwriting, a law firm or related industry is highly desired
- Basic understanding of workers' compensation administrative rules, procedures, laws, and statutes is highly preferred
