Job Overview

The pharmacy resident at arenaflex will participate in a comprehensive post-graduate training program, accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). This program is academically affiliated with and financially supported, in part, by the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS). The residency program is designed to foster the development of pharmacists with expertise in community pharmacy practice, with a focus on advancing the skills required by current and future community pharmacists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical: Participate in mandatory rotations in community pharmacy, ambulatory care, arenaflex management, and education, with the goal of achieving the objectives set out by the accreditation guidelines.
  • Educational: Engage in various teaching opportunities, including small group and large lecture instruction, serving as an assistant preceptor for the community pharmacy practice laboratory, and precepting PharmD clerkship students at all sites.
  • Operational/Regulatory: Develop administrative skills as a pharmacist, including time spent with the pharmacy manager at two sites and the Area Healthcare Manager at arenaflex, to understand the intricacies of pharmacy operations.
  • Management/Administration: Participate in state and national pharmacy associations, attend Massachusetts Pharmacy Association meetings, and engage in regulatory projects to advance the practice of pharmacy.

Objectives

The primary objectives of the pharmacy residency program at arenaflex are to:

  • Engage the resident in the clinical, educational, operational, and administrative aspects of community pharmacy practice.
  • Prepare the resident to assume clinical, educational, operational, and administrative responsibilities within the community practice setting.
  • Provide a mechanism by which the resident contributes to the development of pharmacy services within the community setting.
  • Develop the resident's precepting and teaching skills.
  • Contribute to quality improvement programs as appropriate.
  • Successfully design and implement a longitudinal residency project, as well as present an original manuscript for publication in a reputable pharmacy journal.

Essential Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a school or college of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
  • Ability to obtain a pharmacist license within the state of residency within 90 days of the start of the residency program.
  • Submission of residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS).
  • Participation in and adherence to the rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
  • Certified Immunizer or willingness to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
