Staff Accountant - In person or hybrid
Galway Companies, Inc, a Madison, WI based real estate management and development company, is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance activities across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations and support overall cash management activities
- Prepare supporting workpapers and reconciliations for IRS and other tax filings
- Post and reconcile intercompany activity, including distributions and capital contributions
- Calculate, prepare, and record monthly recurring journal entries
- Prepare and file annual 1099-MISC forms
- Support the commercial CAM reconciliation process by exporting and reviewing reports and assembling tenant data
- Assemble financial support packages for tenants, owners, lenders, and construction draws
- Assist with tenant rent escalations, rent collections, and responses to information requests from commercial tenants, owners, and lenders
- Support accounts payable and credit card processing, as needed
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve accounting or system issues while supporting process improvements
- Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field or 1-2 years' relative work experience
- Basic understanding of GAAP and standard accounting practices
- Strong proficiency in Excel
- Proficiency in MS Office
- High attention to detail with strong accuracy and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, produce quality results, and meet deadlines
- Proactive problem-solver with the ability to work independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Embraces change, learning, and continuous improvement within a collaborative team environment

- Experience in property management or similar field
- Experience with Yardi, MRI, or similar property management software
- Accounting specific to property management: 1 year
- Ability to relocate before starting work
