Accountant

Responsibilities
- Prepare internal and subsidiary financial statements and assist in year-end consolidated financial statements
- Prepare and verify general journal entries and month-end data are in compliance with accounting standards and internal processes
- Assist with annual corporate budget preparation and monthly financial analysis
- Prepare statistical and financial reports for the credit union and subsidiaries
- Provide variance analysis on month-end financials
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of accounts, including accrued expenses, receivables, prepaids, and suspense accounts
- Monitor and reconcile sub-ledger systems, including fixed assets
- Prepare reconciliation and workbooks for leased assets, MLP accounting and other complex accounting processes
- Coordinate fixed asset accounting, including classification, setup, tracking, monthly balancing, and year-end audit working papers
- Assist with GST/PST and other regulatory filings
- Compile documentation and working papers for internal and external audits
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies
- Provide branches and employees with guidance on accounting policies and procedures
- Act as backup for team members and ensure smooth task continuation
- Identify and recommend process improvements for efficiency and internal control enhancements
- Perform special analysis, ad hoc projects, and other duties as assigned
Skills
- Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Accounting designation or working towards one
- 1 - 3 years of experience in a similar role; experience in a financial institution is preferred
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Proficiency in financial systems and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Commitment to continuous improvement and process optimization
- Experience with joint venture structures and reporting
- Familiarity with wealth reporting frameworks
