SolidWorks Designer / Detailer - Architectural & Structural Metalwork (Remote, Contract) - Contract to Hire
We are an established architectural steel & aesthetic metal fabricator working on high-end landscape architecture, public space, and architectural metal projects. We’re looking for an experienced SolidWorks Detailer / Designer who understands real-world fabrication, not just modeling.
This is not a conceptual design role. This is for someone who can produce clean, build-ready shop drawings that shops actually want to fabricate from.
Scope of Work
You will be responsible for producing accurate fabrication and shop drawings for custom architectural and landscape metal projects, including:
Stairs, railings, and guards
Shade structures, canopies, trellises
Site furnishings and custom architectural metal elements
Miscellaneous metals tied to landscape architecture and public spaces
Key Responsibilities
Create shop and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks
Detail architectural & structural steel with fabrication intent
Produce BOMs and material takeoffs
Review architectural and structural drawings/specs for coordination
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and fabrication teams
Revise drawings based on RFIs, redlines, and field conditions
Maintain clear layer standards, naming conventions, and revision control
Required Experience (Please Don’t Apply If You Don’t Meet These)
4+ years of hands-on steel detailing experience
Advanced SolidWorks proficiency (parts, assemblies, drawings)
Strong understanding of:
Steel fabrication methods
Weld symbols and callouts
Shop practices and tolerances
Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
Proven ability to work independently and hit deadlines
Strongly Preferred (Major Plus)
Experience with architectural steel, landscape metals, or misc. metals
Familiarity with AISC standards
Prior work on public space, park, or landscape architecture projects
Experience coordinating directly with fabrication shops
How This Engagement Works
Remote, contract-based role
Ongoing work for the right person (not a one-off task)
We value accuracy, clarity, and constructability over speed
Clear scope, responsive PMs, and professional collaboration
To Apply (Important)
Please include:
A brief summary of your steel detailing experience
Confirmation of years using SolidWorks for fabrication drawings
2–4 sample drawings (PDFs are fine) showing architectural or misc. metal work
Your hourly rate and availability (hours/week)
Generic applications without samples will be ignored.
If you’re a seasoned SolidWorks detailer who understands how architectural metal actually gets built—and you want consistent, professional work—we’d like to talk.
