Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and accomplished Chief Operating Officer who will serve as a key member of our executive leadership team. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional operational and financial acumen, with a proven track record of leading complex organizations through periods of significant growth and transformation. This leadership role requires someone who can function as a thought leader, trusted partner, and mentor while driving our organization's strategic vision forward.

The incoming COO will have the privilege of joining our organization at a pivotal and promising time, with access to comprehensive knowledge transfer opportunities and immediate immersion in our organizational ecosystem. Within the first year, the COO will have the opportunity to thoroughly understand our operations, including business processes, dedicated team members, member demographics, programs, products, vendors, sponsors, and information systems.

Key Responsibilities

As the Chief Operating Officer at arenaflex, you will be responsible for overseeing all domestic and international operations, management, and sustainable business development strategies. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping our organization's future trajectory and ensuring operational excellence across all departments.

Operational Leadership

  • Direct the organization's overall domestic and global business operations and strategies, including asset management, employee benefits, business insurance, executive team performance, treasury, financial management, legal, risk management, payroll, and technology initiatives
  • Establish and recommend business initiatives that improve operations, generate revenue, or control costs, positioning the organization for growth and sustainability
  • Lead and oversee cross-functional collaboration to ensure seamless integration of business processes and organizational objectives
  • Develop and implement strategies, plans, and procedures while assigning team members to special projects as needed
  • Participate in and monitor ongoing improvement efforts to maximize efficiencies, quality control, and cost reduction initiatives

Financial Management

  • Manage corporate budgets and other organizational resources using approved financial guidelines, accepted practices, policies, and procedures
  • Develop long-range financial plans that align with the organization's strategic priorities
  • Evaluate key results by analyzing and interpreting information and statistics; perform forecasts, projections, and modeling
  • Create, review, audit, and modify various reports to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Oversee annual external financial audit processes and ensure regulatory compliance

Strategic Planning & Board Relations

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop the organization's vision and strategic focus
  • Serve as a staff contact for the Board's Executive Council and the Finance and Audit Committee
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive and functional leaders on all matters of strategy and direction
  • Identify external threats and opportunities; adapt strategies to changing conditions

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams across all operational departments
  • Participate in performance analysis processes and implement performance improvement initiatives
  • Oversee hiring decisions and participate in the interview and selection process for departmental roles
  • Promote organizational culture and vision through effective leadership and communication

Experience & Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or related field; education may be substituted with 10 years of Chief Operating Officer experience
  • Minimum 5 years of Chief Operating Officer or comparable senior leadership role required
  • Proven experience in revenue improvement programs and business development
  • Experience with annual external financial audit procedures
  • Extensive experience in managing teams, supporting cross-functional collaboration, promoting change management, developing staff, and establishing clear objectives
  • Minimum 5 years of public speaking experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Business Administration or relevant field; MS/MBA is strongly preferred
  • Experience in software, research, or policy/advocacy
  • Experience in domestic and global business operations management methodologies
  • Experience in non-profit financial management
  • Experience in Association Management Software Systems

The Chief Operating Officer will oversee both direct and indirect reports, ensuring coordinated leadership across all operational functions.
