Job Overview

As a Customer Service Representative at blithequark, you will be the face of our organization, responsible for providing a friendly and welcoming experience to all our customers. Your primary goal will be to ensure that every customer leaves our store feeling valued, appreciated, and eager to return. To achieve this, you will be required to perform a variety of tasks, including:

  • Providing a warm and friendly greeting to all customers upon entering the store or on the phone
  • Getting to know your customers, learning, and using their names to personalize their shopping experience
  • Going out of your way to make customers feel important and valued
  • Moving quickly to provide fast yet friendly service
  • Helping people buy by pointing out promotional items and suggestive selling to customers when appropriate
  • Thanking customers for their business and inviting them back

Additional Responsibilities

In addition to providing exceptional customer service, you will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our store, both inside and outside. This will include:

  • Cleaning and restocking restrooms, trash cans, doors, windows, walls, shelves, and sills
  • Sweeping and mopping floors, and cleaning coolers, rugs, and food service areas
  • Ensuring that the transaction counter, shelves, and merchandise are clean and organized
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the back office, cooler, and coffee and fountain areas
  • Cleaning and maintaining the parking lot, windows, doors, entrance sidewalk, and fuel islands

Merchandising and Inventory Control

You will also be responsible for merchandising and inventory control tasks, including:

  • Stocking, fronting, and facing all merchandise
  • Bagging ice and pricing all merchandised items
  • Cooler fronting and labeling
  • Stocking fountain, cooler, and freezer condiments
  • Brewing coffee and checking and removing out-of-date merchandise
  • Moving and building displays

Accounting and Legal Responsibilities

In this role, you will also be responsible for:

  • Following proper cash and credit card procedures, including refunds and shift procedures
  • Adhering to policies on age-restricted product sales
  • Observing and reacting to shoplifters and gas theft
  • Maintaining a safe environment, including responding to gas spills, emergency stops, slips, falls, and lifting procedures

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Ability to lift, bend, and stand for up to eight hours
  • Ability to bend, squat, twist, stoop, kneel, and reach forward
  • Ability to work in a cooler at a temperature of 32 degrees
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and push/pull 45 lbs
  • Basic math computation skills to count back change
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English and communicate with customers in English
  • Ability to climb a two to five-foot ladder and maintain balance to clean windows and stock and arrange coolers and shelves
  • Ability to react to a fire by lifting a fire extinguisher weighing 10 pounds and moving it to the fire area

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Previous customer service experience in a retail environment
  • Basic knowledge of merchandising and inventory control principles
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
