Tax Analyst
Major League Soccer (MLS) seeks a Tax Analyst to provide tax compliance support for the League. The role involves preparing tax workpapers, interacting with team members for tax return processes, and assisting with international tax compliance issues.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and organize the tax workpapers to be provided to the service providers
- Proactively interact and work closely with team members to gather information for tax return process
- Detailed review of workpapers and tax extensions/ returns from service providers. Closely monitoring status and their progress on federal, state, and local tax return process for the league
- Prepare monthly/quarterly and annual income and excise tax returns for certain states and international jurisdictions
- Assist with international tax compliance issues for subsidiaries in Canada, the Netherlands, & Luxembourg, and all other cross border tax matters
- Assist with resolving several open tax audits at the federal, state, and local levels
- Assist with the Form 1099, Form 1042 compliance process
- Ensure proper compliance with foreign, federal, state, and local law as it relates to foreign payments and receipts based on various business deals
- Identify value-add and improvement opportunities in streamlining the tax process
- Developing and maintaining a good relationship with finance team members and extended to the members of the clubs. Respond to related queries in a timely manner
- Opportunity to participate in various other special projects as necessary
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
- Be flexible to work evenings, weekends, and other non-standard work hours closer to busy season to meet internal/ external deadlines
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in accounting and CPA required; MST is a plus
- 1-2 years of recent experience in public accounting tax practice in a partnership environment
- A good understanding of tax compliance and tax research areas
- Broad knowledge of partnership tax compliance and tax accounting desired
- Knowledge of SALT tax compliance is a plus
- Excellent analytical skills with great attention to detail
- Action-oriented and self-starter with an ability to work independently
- Ability to apply organizational performance management process to monitor projects and deliver results that exceed
- Ability to work to achieve goals while overcoming obstacles and/or planning for contingencies
- Strong passion or sense of urgency about reaching targets
- Detailed self-assurance of work against required quality standards before submitting for review
- Unquestioned ethics, integrity, intellectual honesty, and sound judgment
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to occasionally work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays according to the needs of the business
- Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
