YouTube Video Editor Needed (Long-Form + Shorts) | Educational / Career Content | Ongoing Work - Contract to Hire
I run an educational YouTube channel focused on careers, college decisions, job market realities, and long-term life outcomes.
This is not entertainment content. This is clarity-driven, retention-focused education.
I already publish consistently. Scripts, voiceovers, pacing, and vision are defined.
What I need is an editor who can elevate retention and visual engagement without gimmicks.
This is ongoing work, not a one-off project.
This shows the type of content, structure, and publishing volume we already have.
You are not being asked to “fix everything” — you are being asked to optimize execution.

What You’ll Be Editing
Long-Form YouTube Videos
• 8–15 minutes
• Educational, voiceover-driven
• Faceless
• Goal: maintain attention, reduce drop-off, improve AVD
Shorts (YouTube / TikTok / Instagram Reels)
• 30–60 seconds
• Hook-first, fast pacing
• Clean captions, punchy visuals
• Goal: scroll-stopping clarity
What I Expect (Non-Negotiable)
You must understand:
• Retention matters more than flashy edits
• Every visual must earn its place
• Cuts, zooms, graphics, and b-roll should reinforce the script — not distract from it
You should be comfortable with:
• Stock b-roll + creative sourcing
• Simple 2D animations or motion elements (not Pixar-level animation)
• Clean captions (or placeholders if captions are handled separately)
• Working from finished voiceovers and scripts
What I Do NOT Want
Do not apply if you:
• Only edit gaming, vlog, or meme content
• Rely on templates without thinking
• Need hand-holding or constant creative direction
• Think “more effects = better video”
Test of Fit (Required to Apply)
In your proposal, answer both:
1. What is currently hurting retention in educational, faceless YouTube videos like mine?
2. If you edited my next video, what specific changes would you make to improve watch time?
Short, direct answers only.
Final Note
If you’ve read this far and feel aligned, apply.
If this feels unclear or overwhelming, this role is not a fit.
