[Remote] PAHO Consultant - Epidemic Intelligence and GIS Analyst
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is seeking a consultant to support the Data Management, Analytics, and Products team within their Health Emergency Information Management and Risk Assessment Unit. The role involves advancing the surveillance and geospatial components of the Pandemic Response Optimization Through Engaged Communities and Territories (PROTECT) project, focusing on data management and analytical dashboard development related to epidemic-prone diseases.
Responsibilities
• Produce a multi-hazard natural disaster and climate vulnerability dashboard integrating sea level rise exposure analysis using Climate Central data for selected PROTECT priority countries
• Create an integrated multi-disease analytical dashboard for yellow fever, dengue, chikungunya, and measles in selected PROTECT priority countries
• Develop an R-based CEBS signal prioritization and spatial clustering model for early warning of epidemic-prone diseases in selected PROTECT priority countries
• Design a CEBS analytical training and risk assessment simulation package integrating geospatial analysis and outbreak detection tools for selected PROTECT priority countries
• Establish a multi-hazard geospatial integration framework linking Community Event-Based Surveillance (CEBS) signal data with priority epidemic-prone diseases in selected PROTECT priority countries
• Document initial Community Event-Based Surveillance (CEBS) pilot performance and geospatial outputs in selected PROTECT priority countries
Skills
• Minimum of seven years of combined national and international experience working in epidemiology, communicable diseases, and public health
• Demonstrated experience in epidemiology and surveillance of infectious diseases, complemented by experience in Geographical Information Systems
• Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer and utilize tools and software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook, ArcGIS, QGIS and R
• Excellent written and spoken English (and/or Spanish); working knowledge of Spanish (or English)
• A master's degree in communicable diseases, public health, or related field would be an asset
• Experience in or sound knowledge of PAHO and WHO processes for epidemic alert and response
• Knowledge of statistical methods (e.g. spatial/temporal analysis using GIS)
• Working knowledge of French or Portuguese would be an asset
