Senior International Trade Attorney
Our client, a prestigious international law firm with a strong presence in Washington, D.C., US , is seeking an accomplished Senior International Trade Attorney to join their esteemed practice. This role requires extensive expertise in international trade law, including import/export regulations, customs compliance, trade agreements, sanctions, and trade remedies. You will advise a diverse clientele, ranging from multinational corporations to government agencies, on complex cross-border trade matters. Responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, negotiating trade agreements, and representing clients in administrative and judicial proceedings. The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school, admission to a state bar, and a minimum of 8 years of experience specifically focused on international trade law. A deep understanding of global trade policies and geopolitical influences is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide expert legal counsel on a wide range of international trade matters. Advise clients on compliance with import/export controls, sanctions, and other trade regulations. Draft, review, and negotiate international trade agreements and contracts. Represent clients before government agencies (e.g., Commerce, CBP, USTR) and in trade litigation. Conduct due diligence and risk assessments for international transactions. Develop and implement trade compliance programs for clients. Stay abreast of evolving international trade laws, policies, and geopolitical developments. Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda and opinions. Manage client relationships and provide strategic advice. Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to the firm's knowledge base.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Admission to a state bar and in good standing. Minimum of 8 years of experience practicing international trade law. In-depth knowledge of import/export regulations, customs law, trade remedies (e.g., AD/CVD), and international trade agreements. Experience with sanctions regimes (e.g., OFAC) and export control regulations (e.g., EAR, ITAR). Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills. Strong negotiation and advocacy skills. Proven ability to manage complex cases and client relationships. Proficiency in relevant legal databases and research tools. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in a large law firm or government agency setting is preferred.
