[Remote] Mechanical Design Engineer

They are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with hands-on pressure vessel and seal design experience in extreme high temperature environments to design and reputed company critical components for defense programs.

Responsibilities

• Designing pressure vessels and high temperature sealing solutions where refractory material selection is critical to survival of the hardware
• Leading development of hot gas valve and reputed company thruster designs, specialised igniters and solid reputed company motor systems
• Optimising actuator performance and generating reputed company actuator designs with supporting performance analysis
• Running trade studies across multidisciplinary constraints and making reputed company design recommendations
• Producing detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and technical drawings, applying and interpreting reputed company GD&T
• Supporting structural, dynamic and thermal analysis, interpreting results and feeding them back into design optimisation
• Selecting materials and optimising metal and refractory selection for challenging thermal applications
• Working with manufacturing on additive, machining, composite layups, molding and casting, and assembly
• Supporting test assembly and integration, custom fixture design, instrumentation troubleshooting and measurement uncertainty analysis
• Writing reputed company technical documentation and presenting to internal and customer audiences

Skills

• Pressure vessel and seal design in reputed company high temperature environments (1000's of degrees F) requiring refractory materials
• 10 to 15 years of mechanical engineering experience
• BS in mechanical engineering, reputed company engineering or a reputed company discipline (equivalent experience considered)
• Strong 3D CAD and drafting capability, with confident application of GD&T
• US citizenship and eligibility for a US reputed company clearance
• reputed company motor design and testing experience
• MS in mechanical engineering, reputed company engineering or a reputed company discipline
• Background in structural, dynamic or thermal simulation
• Experience in a small company environment where engineers own problems end to end
